17D I suggest FEINT is the answer. It sounds like faint (or quiet). A feint is a deceptive action and derives from a move in the sport of fencing.

Are you sure chrome is right? I can't see the wordplay. Also I am pretty sure Eliot is the answer to 11D which makes the first letter of 19A a "T" not a "C". I think 19A may be THRONE but, again, I can't see the wordplay.
19a wordplay appears to be :- TH(thorium - a metal), R (part of the word car), ONE (a) ie THRONE, which is a seat which has a back.
