I'm puzzled about 5 down: Frequent tendency to follow soldiers
_E_U_R_N_
I think it's recurrent (frequent)
RE = soldiers
but I can't get the current being tendency
am I wrong or being 'thick'?
Thanks in advance

Current and tendency can both be defined as following a particular course
I had recurring then opinion on this site changed my mind to recurrent. Now though, I'm lost and don't know which is correct. I think I'll go with recurrent though.
current: "A general tendency, movement, or course. "
tendency =trendy = current
I think it's okay - bit of a loose definition, current suggesting where things are tending towards.
Dannyk and Mallyh are wrong: current is the noun here, not the adjective.
I think it has to be re current rather than re curring as curring isn't a word as far as I know whereas current is a match of sorts to 'tendency'
current is not a match 'of sorts', it is a match. From the OED,

current (n.) Course or progress in a defined direction; tendency, tenor, drift (of opinions, writings, etc.).
