As I was filling the grid, I kept waiting for the "gremlin". It duly arrived due to my putting an answer in the wrong place. All in all, straightforward fun and no excuse now for not putting up the Christmas tree. Thanks Aedites.
Indeed. 7 raised a smile, as did the whole idea. Nice one Aedites. Must be a couple of real b*ggers to come though!
Oh dear! Less than an hour. A new PB for me.

Oh well. Plenty of time to get ready for 'The Hobbit' this evening.
If I can finish it by 6.00 it's not really up to Listener standard. Quite entertaining though.
A fair and enjoyable puzzle, but I doubt that you'll take the whole weekend to finish it. Leaves plenty of time for the Christmas cards...
I'm not sure the Friday Club will be quite so exclusive after this week. Fun though.
Ho hum. Maybe there were worries about postal delays.

On the plus side, at least I won't be up half the night this week.
Count me in the Friday club this week! The trouble is that I put up my Christmas tree this afternoon. Perhaps they realise that we need to do other things at this time of year.
OK I've done that puzzle, but where's The Listener?
Awesome as last weeks was it is nice to have a more straightforward one this week, where unlike last week I didn't have a full grid in 24 hours and then spend the rest of the week on the endplay (and especially sayisfying the final PDM)! I wonder how on earth did Aedites pick his theme?

Fine, but not really up to EV level of difficulty. Damn, now I have to grade papers instead.

Surely you haven't set them work so near the end of term Dr B?
Of course - final exams, final projects, final papers to write - the fun never stops.
Very gentle - at least I can now enjoy the B'ham Christmas Market tomorrow with a clear conscience :+)
Not too hard but fun. Some nice smiles in the clues and an unfamiliar theme. Very welcome at the time of year - thanks Aedites!
Having just returned from a few weeks in Oz my body-clock is all over the shop. This puzzle helped fill the wakeful small hours in most enjoyable fashion. Having looked at a few posts, it looks as though catching up with last week's will be more of a challenge? I've missed four weeks of puzzles - any opinions on the best of the four?
BlackHugh wondered why Aedites picked this theme. Well his last Listener was about the Glasgow subway, no. 4124, and the one before that was Question, no. 4052, the one involving bell-ringing changes (and the controversy over church, campanile, belfry and bell tower,) so he certainly seems to provide us with an eclectic mix. This was very much easier than those two.

Mesnilpat, you must have missed two for which the solution is already posted. Elap's Numerical (4216 Evens) wasn't as difficult as they sometimes are. 4217 Absolutely Pointless by Waterloo was original and challenging. 4218 System Analysts by Stick Insect was original too and the endgame was great - I think that would be my pick of the four. 4219 was a really enjoyable grid fill but the endgame was difficult and I know people are still wondering about the last pdm. Welcome back!
Hard to get into the Friday club when you don't start until 9.30 or so on Saturday.
Z cup alert :+)
