I've just about finished solving all the clues, but don't understand one of my answers.
10 A. Miles locating low bar before end of awful day (6) r?b?l?
I came up with 'ribald' - but don't know if it's correct, or why.
NB. Every clue is really two clues, separated by an extra word. I have solved the first half, so have omitted that info - the extra word seems likely to be 'miles', 'locating' or 'bar'. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Jagobean - thanks. I was just about to post that I had only one, going down from the top row. I hope this is correct - I was beginning to get dispirited, but I think I'll soldier on.
Got it! Thank you Jagobean.
I just assumed - wrongly -that it had to involve a letter from BACK DOWN
Thanks all for help. Have finished but don't understand the phrase Back Down Forward
I think it's because the theme words to be highlighted are found either BACK(wards), DOWN or FORWARD in the grid.
Thanks Boreas I wondered but that seemed too simple!
. . . or to clarify,
BACK(wards), DOWN(wards) or FORWARDS. FORWARDS meaning they appear in the conventional way you would expect them to appear and be read,
Yes, I know what you mean.
And I wonder if there is a significance to CHINESE being the only one that doesn't involve letters from BACK DOWN?
. . . and, is it just one of those unintended things that OSAKA appears in the grid? Or am I too thick to work it out?
I'm having trouble with 11 down (the lefthand one)
Grass, short piece so far, comes up (r-osa)
I've tried every letter of the alphabet in there, and I can't make it work! Please help..
it's ROOSA, an Indian grass. (But I don't really get the clue)
I have 4 of them but cannot see the one you say begins with H - mine begin with C L A G - unless I have made a mistake I only have one H in the grid
Question Author
I no longer have the paper - but I think the 'H' one started on the right hand side, went across the phrase (intersecting at the 7th letter).
Thanks - I had chosen the wrong spelling of 15 - had a U where the H should have been.
ROOSA:
short piece = ROO[K] + AS = so far 'up'.

Maybe someone else can explain the second-last sentence in the preamble ('One on the left ...). I have the puzzle completed, but don't get the point of that bit.
Question Author
One on the left... is just 1 Across (on the left) describes all of the theme words which may be of use to 1 Across (on the right).
Thanks Boreas, Laphria!
Presumably G and L were written L to R, A and H R to L, and C is written downwards ?
