Hello EVers,
I started off quite well, solving clues more or less in clue order. Came to a crunching halt in the SE sector, but sorted after a while! Then spotted a "string" of letters that helped. However I think it was a rather sneaky title as it is only partially "Down Under"!

Hola Doc, my experience sounds similar to yours on this one. The title had me in several different locales before I sorted it out.

5" of snow on Thursday with some ice following, but a sunny 40 degrees today so the big melt has begun. Much grading of projects as my afternoon's amusement.
Having just found the first part of the message... I didn't realise there were any. Sigh.
Hello! Currently in the same position as DocHH re SE corner and have some oddities throughout that I assume will be sorted when I have the full instructions but am currently struggling with 1d which has two b's which messes up what I thought was an anagram. Strong coffee, get the washing on wait for the man to come and remove an old electric meter and see if the brain will 'leap the wall'.
Weather sounds 'not nice drb, cold and sunny here about 4C here.
1Down is an anagram. It does not have 2 b's!
Oh dear! You have confirmed what I suspected S, either 13a or 40a is wrong. Mind you, still can't get the anagram as yet.
Question Author
Devadolly, you have got 40a wrong, but I can guess at what you have entered. Right approach, but wrong result.
Another late start this week and I never did manage that final hurdle on last week's EV.

An enjoyable puzzle and finally satisfying when I ironed out a couple of niggles where I had not understood the word play for very good reason.
Hi

I'm baffled as to how 28A works(only the unchecked letter remaining), a common word(and two obsolete ones)are my options but I can't fathom the wordplay....any chance of a gentle nudge in th right direction?
Stand down....got help in the other place, confused myself by getting the transport before solving the clue and spotting the "conflict"

Twit-Who.
In respect of last weeks offering look at 100° symmetry and then do what the BRB suggests, albeit cryptically!
Question Author
^180° symmetry, DOH!
Have populated the upper half of the grid but still working on the lower half. Talking of fractions - I am right in thinking that 7d should read "three fifths" or, to be strictly correct, "three eighths" - or have I got this completely wrong?
I am in the same position as you, Ringer, and agree with you, too, re. the three fifths. Am finding the bottom half slow going.
Annoyingly can't find the final "third" of the instructions anywhere. Still, some interesting clues so thanks Chalicea.
Damn I wish I could remember not to click into this masonic lodge of a thing. :s
Now populated the grid but like Jim, struggling to obey the third instruction. I experienced both last summer on the same day and I know which I prefer!
Thanks for that pointer to the final hurdle from last week, DocHH. Very clever. Not sure I would have found it alone however much grid staring I did and indeed I had glanced at that location without a flicker of recognition. Different when I knew it was the right place. I won't be submitting.
Thank you docHH, a little rearrangement solved it and also led to the completion of most of the grid, but (as usual) I'm having trouble with the latter part of the instruction and the 'crowded' lights.
Never did finish last week's, am still casting a jaded eye over it!
If you want any more hints on last week's drop me an email, [email protected]. I'd rather people solved 1058 than didn't, so...

Still missing the second part of the final instruction.
Question Author
Devadolly, if you have completed the second part of the instructions, try drawing a line through the "crowded" lights.
