Silly little one left - 7 d: Needing to believe, see printed signs. o-e-i. Thought it must be 'omens', but couldn't parse it and 13 a must be 'asclepius' giving the 'i'.
By the way. 9 d must be 'gobsmackingly', but cannot wholly parse: I 've GOB = 'kisser'; MA = 'old woman'; C = 'caught'; KING = 'sovereign' but that still leaves me with SLY. Bit too sly for me!

I can't remember the exact clue for 9d but I'm sure it said "old woman's or old girl's" so it's MA'S not Ma. I think the Reign was kingly

Thanks all - and especially to Factor Fiction. Yes it is Ma's and kingly, the latter being = to sovereign (as an adjective).
