I presume it is STENOSIS (which I had to look up dammit, otherwise I wouldn't have had to cheat this week). OK the relative is SIS, but where does STENO come from? I'm stumped (yet again).

I think it's OK - steno is in Chambers as N American informal word for a stenographer.

Not on the online version (which I've just created a link to on my desktop) or on my usual dictionary.com, but I see it is in my Collins English Dictionary, which I never use. I just learnt that sometimes paper is better than e!
