Anybody drawn the six lines yet ?

Not sure if this is right at all but I used the four terms alluded to in the extra letters, highlighted in the grid - think one is offset - with the diagonals of the grid as one of the other terms "generated" by the extra letters. These would give the geometric terms described if they cut the diagonals as a solid object....seems right in my book at least but am I missing something more obvious ?

I can't help, Gregsdad, I gave up after highlighting. It looked and sounded way beyond me, but I hope you get it resolved.

I think that you're on the right lines. Imagine something like an egg-timer with four cuts to make in it...and read about C***C S*CT**S on Wikipedia.

I know that the E*L****E located in the vicinity of 16a/19a but
I can't see a continuous line of correct letters to be highlighted.

Totally sympathise Never, this really stretched my limited geometric knowledge.We seem to be moving from the sometimes esoteric into the realms of the academic with this week's puzzle.

Thanks chilternman, that's reassuring. I think the fourth shape starts at 16A, then takes in three letters from 19A. Well that's the best I can come up with. My reasoning is that this is quite deliberate otherwise we would have an identical shape to that in third line from the bottom !

Where to draw each straight line is suggested by adjoining letters in three out of the four cases but of course the fourth can’t be in order to get the correct angle. You must look for the word suggesting where it should be drawn in cells at regular intervals rather than adjoining. ‘Chess move’ is a hint to the spacing! Best of luck.

I can't finish this one, because when I was at school geometry hadn't yet been invented. And anyway, I was red-herringed by the appearance of SITARS in the grid.

I can't for the life of me decide whether all of the straight lines should be drawn end to end through the grid, ie from one edge to the other. Four, at least, should - if I have it right - but for the 2 that would be at right angles to one another, I'm unsure - ideas?

I drew the other two lines, indeed all, end to end. Think one of the lines defining one of the shapes would pass through the bottom of the solid otherwise...if that matters ?

I think that both the object and the lines (or planes) that we have to draw are in fact supposed to be of infinite lengths so I would go with gregsdad, but it is an awful long time since I did this stuff. Great puzzle though.

Hi Garaman
I too struggled with my fourth line and resorted to a similar solution to yours, starting at 16a and then going through the third and then the last two letters of 19a. This does make a line at the correct angle but, as two of my lines now have a letter in common I have only found 29 letters to highlight. I'm also not comfortable with the gaps between my letters as it seems sort of untidy!
Have I made a mistake in my answer to 19a? I would be happier if I could start it with APS instead of APP. Other than this little niggle I'm fine but would appreciate a tip about this bit please.

Hi Indy-trier, your APP is good so don't change it. You are looking in the wrong place the word doesn't start where you say and does have equal spacing not using any of the cells used by others. Think of a knights move!

Gosh Garman! Thanks for this but now I really am stumped I'm studying my grid like mad but I still can't see it! I'm thinking maybe I've made a mistake somewhere else but as my answers have all yielded the correct spare letters I'm struggling!

The word starts at one side of the grid and ends at the other with equal spacing taking the angle that it should.
