Blue on blue - in warfare, friendly forces are known as "blues", enemies as "reds"

So does "blue" = "waste"? Where does that come from? I know "blow" and hence "blew" ones money could be waste, but I don't know the connection to "blue". Any help appreciated.

In reply to that, rudeword, blue can mean "to squander" and probably does so as a play on "blow".
