i think it is. if i'm on the phone whilst i'm shopping or anywhere around other people, i'll tell them i'll call back.

i had to take some calls on the train on monday and it was packed so i couldn;t escape into the corridor, that was horrible
what makes me laugh is the number of times I've been to public loos and heard people nattering away in the next loo whilst doing their thing. and they never wash their hands!
nor their phones
exactly!
Yes...very rude unless it's an emergency.
yes it is..
It is a minor faux pas at most.
not to the person who is waiting to serve other customers, or to the customers having to listen to the chat of the person on the phone. bad manners
It's rude to talk on your phone while talking to, or dealing with, anyone else, unless that phone call is an essential part of what you are doing. So unless she was asking what else to buy, I'm not at all impressed with this woman's attitude.
Yes its rude
Is it called Counter Productive?
i know we women are supposed to be good at juggling jobs, but i couldn't figure a way to talk on mobile phone and pack the shopping, then pay..
It's ruder to refuse to serve the customer
its far ruder to think that you can chat away whilst the cashier is trying to serve you, it takes just a few minutes, not a lot in the grand scheme of things. besides the woman has done well, vouchers and an apology from the store, plus wonder how much she gets for flogging the story...
Yes, I do think it is rude and don't do it myself.

I do, however, think it was wrong of the cashier to not follow company policy and impose her own opinion on the customer.

Going to the paper with such a story is really quite pathetic IMHO.
wasn't it the customer who went to the papers....
Did I say otherwise?

I think it is rude;
I don't think the cashier was right;
I think the shopper was pathetic.
just asking..
