Any help in understanding the following would be greatly appreciated

We partially understand this as Narr['carry' skinned]ATIVE ..... but can't see how 'native' relates to 'mother' or 'bears'.

12a : Calculus class initially seeks to go well (6,5)
KIDNEY STONE (calculus)
We can't determine how the word play operates

12 a kidney stone is known medically as a renal calculus (calculus - latin for pebble)
I can't parse narrative, which letters are you sure about?
