Spoke with the Daily Record and the answer the compiler is looking for is nestle. Good luck.

Got a phone call this morning from the Daily Record and they told me that they would now accept any of the above two answers. Think I might have phoned the paper about four times in the past month regarding clues with more than one correct answer, but this is the first time they have told me they will accept either. Not before time.

Yes, nestle implies more"burrowing". Don't think that's a good clue

Agree pixie about it being a bad clue, but at least now nobody's wasted a stamp on it.

Sam1960, must admit I had settle, never even thought about nestle until I seen this post just now, good on you phoning about it, you brought it to their attention, then they decided what to do, glad they decided to accept either answer rather than void the crossword which they promised they wouldn't do.

the person who called me this morning katburd was really nice. I asked if this was to be a new policy for the DR and she said if a particular clue is now drawn to their attention they will look at it, in this case because the compiler was looking for nestle they felt they had no other option but to accept both answers.

exactly Sam1960, they need the feedback from us, as the girls/boys in the office only have the answers laid out in front of them, if the compiler didn't give them other possible answers to accept, they will not be aware of anything wrong with the crossword, and yes the office staff are very helpful.
