Do they really save money, or are they paying the same price that the goods were, a month ago?

And by the look of the photos, not many British!

Yeah, they come over here and take all our bargains, don't they...!

Not many British? who the hell can say what that means these days. only a few years ago that lot would not have qualified.
All the Brits were behind the counters earning £6 per hour!
I don't understand all this. People were queuing outside Next from 6.30 am? I once went to a Next sale. It was full of rails of rather nasty jeans that you had to search through one by one to find your size and a style you might like. Complete waste of time.
how exactly do you tell Britishness from a photo?
No different from any other day. The big spenders are foreign, as a visit to Bond Street (Louis Vuitton and other luxury goods) will soon demonstrate.

But , since they always buy goods which are far more expensive back home than here, the sales provide an added incentive.
"A fool and his money......"
Who says they are fools? Somebody somewhere has been clever enough to make, and keep, that sort of money. That doesn't strike me as foolish. A limited Louis Vuitton grip costs about £1,500 which is a lot for a , usually canvas, holdall, and a flight bag costs £1,300. Handbags can cost well over £2,000 if made by, or for, a fashionable or classic designer; even the larger version of the classic Chanel 55 bag costs over £2,500. If you are in the market for such goods, because that's what you like, why not buy them ? What they cost is a tiny percentage of such a buyer's income and a minute part of their wealth. It's quite canny to buy them cheaper than the regular price
I wouldn't buy from Next even if the items were tuppence. They never have anything I would ever want. Rails and rails of tat.
I've never been "into"Sales. I don't understand the fascination with it all.
Does Topshop have annual sales? Sir Philip Green, who controls it, used to say that he'd never have sales, because having stock you had to shift by them was a sign of failure in management. If it wouldn't sell at the first price, it shouldn't have been stocked in the first place
I went to a next sale ,every time I brought the pair of sock to the counter the assistant ignored me and said "next"
I was watching the sales on tv news and my brother said exactly same trt looks like all overseas visitors[ or words to that effect !],
Fredpuli, I don't know about TopShop, but he also owns Burton and Dorothy Perkins.

They are often having sales to get rid of their rubbish.
That's why I asked, Hopkirk: I'd a feeling he owned one group of shops that did have sales.

Ok, I admit it I'm confused!
How the hell can you tell from a photo' where a person was born (not many British) or if they have obtained British Citizenship since then?
You should apply to the Border Agency, that would be an invaluable talent to them!
//How the hell can you tell from a photo' where a person was born (not many British)//

you can't - but since the commentary that went with the photos (and the VT on the news items) said that most of those in the lead were overseas tourists, it's not really difficult to work it out.

Trt was commenting on the LOOK not the commentary which imo is out of order!
i have to agree - i said exactly the same - not many people LOOKED British (ie they had facial features of other races)
Or can't you even say that now?

//they had facial features of other races Or can't you even say that now//

I'm not trying to stop anyone saying anything, it is after all a Free Country (at the moment) I'm simply asking how trt or you can tell at a glance that they're not British, as in where were they born, what Passport they hold, I'm reasonably sure you don't have to be White/Causasian to be British.
