Ev 1106: Take Heed, By Samuel

Hello EVers,
A far less demanding EV this week. Three of the clashes appeared quite quickly. which lead to the obvious positioning of the other four. I felt there were more than enough hints in clues to the "some whose fate may be at stake"! Enjoyable to say the least, time now for a preprandial!

Really enjoyed this - lots going on, and more thematic elements than you can shake a stick at. Never mind the rest of the setters - if we could have Samuel and Oxymoron alternate weeks all year, I'd be happy!

That's nothing against the other setters - it's just that those two are my favourites :-) There's been lots of other good puzzles recently, including Stick Insect, Ferret, Kcit, Artix, and others. We all have our favourites though

Nothing wrong in having favourite setters. Samuel is certainly up there: tight but accessible cluing, usually respects symmetry, often picks fun themes and so on. I've never had a chance to solve his "Cause of Much Pain" Listener which is probably up there as his best work, but never mind.

Which number is that one, Jim360? Can't bring it to mind but always happy to have another bash. As Bill Bryson said, one of the joys of ageing is being able to watch repeats of Inspector Morse (or whoever) without the first idea of what happens next. Same with puzzles for me.

I too enjoyed this one whilst watching much maligned Italian footy. It only gets a bad press from those who don't watch it. And as for the Bundesliga......wow

Blimey, have just looked back at the Answerbank thread for Listener 3975. It makes rather interesting reading.
