For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Just a final warning, as I daresay others will have the same problem: it is just as difficult when you've finished, of course, to submit the solution online as it was to download it in the first place. Supposedly a Java app problem. Have complained to both addresses. Also an instruction regarding the theme may be added later, as the whole thing can only be solved when you hit on the principle underlying most (but not all) of the answers. Thirdly, closing date omitted. Let's hope they get this all sorted out soon: nearly every month we have the same or similar problems. Have never understood why they have this speciaol system for Geenius, unlike the Sat.
prize puzzle: it's free anyway (thank god).

Thought I'd keep anyone interested up to date: the Editor has now replied, but it's supposed to be my fault of course, nothing has been improved on the site, & my enquiry to UserHelp has produced nothing so far. Seems such a pity that one's enjoyment of such an excellent puzzle should be ruined regularly by the apparent technical incompetence of the paper. I've tried following expert advice, re-installing latest Java update, etc --- everything, and must now rely on a friend in London who hopes to be able to submit it for me! Would be interested to hear from others still, as I don't think I'm THAT stupid or that it's really the user's fault at all. This farce has been going on every month for ages now!
Hi Maurice. I'm having the same problem downloading this puzzle for online submission. I get the message that 'my security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running'. This is nonsense, it's Java we're talking about, I have the up-to-date version, and it works perfectly well elsewhere!!
Hi again, Maurice. If you go to your Java program, on the Java Control Panel, under the Security tab, and set your security to Medium, you can get the online version! This suggest that the Guardian has let its certificate as a 'trusted authority' lapse [allegedly!].
PS can you help me with 10 across; I've got -I-I-G?
