One could equally say why 'shouldn't 'one be stopped because of the colour of your skin?

There are lots of issues to be taken into consideration.

Is it because of some black persons behaviour why they are particularly singled out?

If it is a predominantly black area, then it is obvious that more blacks are going to be stopped and searched?

And the same can be said regarding shop lifting, especially if there has been a particular problem with shop lifters in the area.

Also if the police are called to a school over a knife incident, should they only search the few white pupils and ignore the black ones?

No matter what the police do, they will always be criticised by some.

Well, she is entitled to her opinion of course.

But the more she goes on about it the more people do begin to wonder. Perhaps her efforts would be better spent promoting young black people in a better light and working with those that cast a shadow over the minority.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, if three or four times as many white folk as black folk were stopped in a predominantly black area, would there not be questions asked?

In what ways do some black folk act differently from some white folk, do the actions or manner of all offenders differ by colour? If so, please explain, cheers
AOG's post reacts to Mrs Lawrence's viewpoint -

Why shouldn't one be stopped because of the colour of their skin? Because that means that an individual is being singled out for special treatment on the basis of nothing more than their ethnic origin

There's a word for that kind of behaviour.

It's called racism.
I have been stopped an searched twice ( seventies )
and didnt like either much....
ymb...in answer to your question, it would appear that she has done and is still doing exactly what you suggest, which is why she was awarded her OBE, and why she was elevated to the House of Lords ::::
