emmie you're spot on,We used to have and old boy in our fishing club who'd worked all his life as a driver and it didn't matter where we went he always knew where to get the best value meals.Nothing fancy just good old plain value for money food
it doesn't have to be the working man's cafe either, there are at least 6 cafe/restaurants across the capital i know, that do the best slap up full monty breakfast, max a fiver, one i know does it for 3.50p - includes bread and a tea or coffee.
(Also, it's only the media who seem to believe that people do what the Gov/public bodies say - most people are well aware of trading risk for "good things" - whatever they might be)
Home made sourdough bread is very nutritious and inexpensive and with a bit of creativity can be the main ingredient in a number of delicious dishes.
