No sign of food banks here.

Here is the menu, I thought that the choice of dessert was in bad taste. :0)

Starter
Halibut with baby leeks in a fine herb sauce

Main Course
Tournedos of Windsor Estate beef with wild mushrooms and watercress purée
Purple sprouting broccoli in hollandaise sauce
Onions stuffed with parmesan and bulgur wheat
Savoyarde potatoes and salad

Dessert
Vanilla ice-cream bombe with Windsor redcurrant centre and fruit plate

Wines
Ridgeview Cuvée Merret Grosvenor 2009
Meursault 1er Cru Perrières 2005, Chanson Père et Fils
Château Léoville-Barton 1990, 2ème Cru Classé, St Julien
Louis Roederer Carte Blanche NV
Quinto do Noval Vintage Port 1966

And why was 'M' there?

AOG ~ I admit to not being much of a foodie but the menu, to me, sounds awful. The beef and the ice cream would be my limit.

I don't know about wines so can't even guess as to how much all that cost us. but the meal wasn't OTT.
I think Mr Barker made his point in a dignified manner and who can fault him.

The Menu is as one would expect for a state occasion, I would have passed on the stuffed onions lovely as they sound.

I am sure the wines were an excellent choice too.

Judi Dench is a Dame of the British Empire, though there are likely other reasons for her attendance than that.
no spuds? I bet he threw a paddy.

Just googled the potato dish. Think I'll do that for tea. It sounds nice.

Where are you going to get your 2 medium Yukon gold potatoes from and don't say the Yukon?
Nice enough menu. And for the record I have seen collections for food banks at Waitrose in Windsor.

As to why 'M' was there, hopefully it was to explain why she was still operational ~ 20 years after the normal retirement age for her grade.
Well why not, AOG, after all Queenie was feeding the Pres of Ireland and there are standards to be maintained.

Why was M there? I assume you mean McGuinness, a democratically elected minister of Northern Ireland, whether you like it or not.

She could have gone for thousand pound bottles of wine (wit a Léoville Barton 1955 though I would prefer the same vintage for a Chateau St Pierre.).

I guess it would have been baked beans on toast and Irn Bru if she had entertained you.......!
i'd eat all of that, 'cept the mushrooms, they can be shoved back into the wild

If you had a spark of humour in your body, you would realise that it was a joke and 'M' was the character from James Bond films, that stared Dame Judi Dench, not McGuinness as you incorrectly assumed, hence the jpg link.
I wonder who amongst the guests was brave enough to attempt to peel the pineapple
I thought that pineapples came in tins
M. was working undercover me thinks. is martin mcguinness known as M in royal circles ? :)
Mamyalynne Judy Dench's mother was Irish.

That was very clever, did you place them in front of your computer and then take a photo?

How did you then put that particular snap onto AnswerBank?

Branston though? I prefer Heinz.
Thank you Whirly - my Grandfather was Irish, maybe my invite got lost in the post.
