It was on the internet, which has turned out to be the perfect place for people to say what they are thinking before actually thinking about it, and for many thousands of people to hear it too. I'm sure that in days past, similar idiots have been around, saying similarly stupid and crassly offensive things, but only their mates down the pub heard them so it didn't matter so much.
A generation ago, before the internet, he would be the pub idiot mouthing off because he was drunk, before being told to shut up and go home.
Now, these people have access to the world via a keyboard, but no basic intelligence test about the suitability of their views for the civilised world.
It's the downside of the freedom of the Web - any numpty can have a go, but it is depressing when people like this get to have a voice.

Numbskull already has an existing community order in Swansea so they are dealing with him there. I wish they'd dealt with him in Leeds. These cowards feel safe at home thinking their foul comments cannot be traced back. Thank goodness they can be arrested and shown up for what they are, I just wish someone had pulled that hood off his head. B*stard.

I think there genuinely *is* an explanation for this kind of behaviour. The Internet gives people a feeling of invisibility. Also the Internet allows the very stupid / very drunk and the very naive to broadcast their innermost thoughts without check.
This means that things that should remain between the ears, sometimes slip out through the fingers.
After every national disaster, there are horrible jokes that do the rounds of schoolyards, offices and pubs...but now, these jokes can be spread to the whole country at a click of a button on Twitter (or whatever other sociall medium is popular at the time).
The genie is out of the bottle.

I dont even think people would say stuff like that in a pub for fear of being lamped by someone suitably disgusted.
These people only exist on the Internet. I dont think they even neccessary stand by what they say - they post to get a reaction. Even a negative reaction is a reaction and that feeds them the misplaced sense of self worth they crave.
