A welcome return to solvable EVs again! Chalicea is good at packing thematic stuff into her grids, isn't she? I count at least 54 cells (maybe more) that are thematically linked, spread all over the place, so this can't have been easy to fit together. Anyway, thanks Chalicea.

Yes, a nice gentle solve this week. However, the preamble seems to imply that we don't need to highlight the five words of the 6ac which appear in the grid, just the construct described by the extra letters (I make this just 11 cells). Does anyone else find this odd?
Rainy day activity day here, so whilst rest of family watches prince caspian (Disney version, with the bigoted undertones removed) I got time to tackle this. And very enjoyable it was too. Thank you chalicea. Now to make risotto which exactly both children will fail to eat.

I can see what you mean to some extent stymied but I suppose it's not too much of a problem. You need to spot the five-word quote in order to understand the message revealed by the extra letters I'd have thought so even if you don't highlight it you still need to know it's there. Several times in crosswords in the past thematic content is left un-highlighted so it's not unusual either.
Yes, lovely puzzle. Back to the type of EV I like. Still a couple of clues to solve and the highlighting part to find, but very pleasing to get back into the EV after a few tough weeks.
Have managed to get through this between bouts of work. I found it easier to find what needs highlighting rather than the five words.
Enjoyed this -just one query. 6d. Have what must be the answer, but can't connect it to what must be the definition.

It's a bit of an obscure definition but seemed to be confirmed by C., perhaps best illustrated by the phrase "one hope's are ____ed"?
Thanks Jim - no hint of a confirmation in my version of the brb, but your example makes sense.
