I have noticed that the first answer to your queries always gets a BEST ANSWER.

Don.t you find that this devalues the point of BEST ANSWER?

Would a .." Thank you" surfice?

Hi sqad- are you suggesting it could go instead to whoever explains the wordplay best? It would certainly seem inappropriate to give it to one of those posters that posts an answer days after an answer has been given. I'd agree a thank you is important- and Carvelt normally gives those. I'm not sure Best Answers are a big deal for most posters- although they are more meaningful than badges.

Wether I indulge in Q&P is hardly the point.
Best answers are defined as such.
Many people spend much time preparing their answers and are awarded accordingly.
If an ABer is continually giving BEST ANswer to the first post irrespective of it.s correctness, it devalues the principal.
That is my point

If Best Answers are regularly given for incorrect answers then I'd agree that this does somewhat devalue the Best Answer award. I hadn't realised that that was what you were referring to

This particular case stood out "like a sore thumb."

If you are going to use rewards of any kind, then make them meaningful.

Not in Q&P they don't .You either know the answer or you don't .It's quick fire in here,not a drawn out medical diagnosis :)
If you are so concerned about this ,take it up with the Editor .
