I have a question. Why are they called extremist when they are ionly following what is taught in the precious book? We dont call people who obey the 10 commandments extremist do we? I personally think that all this labelling of extremist is very missleading.

Such hatred is such a waste.

I think one of the main differences is that those following the ten commandments do not call for the slaughter of non-believers. It is hardly extemism suggesting that followers should not kill, steal or commit adultery. Calling for the beheading of non-believers, however, could be considered a bit extreme.

The good news is that he has no intention of coming back, and we can only hope that's true of the other British jihadists that have gone abroad.

It's often said 'If you don't like it here then pIs5 off somewhere else', which exactly what they've done, so fair play to them.

As regards what makes an extremist, good question, I'm not sure.

I think the questioner's point NJ is that that's what the book tells you to do, so if that's what you set out to do, aren't you just a follower?
What is it that makes you an 'extremist'?

2 issue realy 1) Believing any of the sets of fairy tales is at best deluded and and worst stark raving bonkers 2) If on top of 1) a person places a literal and extreme interpretation of said fairy tales then they are extremists.
Religious books do offer a lot of sound moral guidance, the 10 commandments for example but you do not need to be reigious to live a good honest moral life. I have only one commandment "Do as you would be done by" - that covers it all pretty well.

What can't be denied is the fact that Islam is a very violent religion harking back to the middle ages.

With this in mind I can never understand why so many continue to remain believers, personally if any religion or organisation etc that I was a member of continued to support such actions, then I would withdraw myself from them immediately.

If their are any Muslims on here, then may I ask you, why is it you don't wish to do the same?

So why call them 'extremests' when there is nothing extreme about their views they are merely carrying out what is told? I think all this labelling is nonesense

That's a good question ukanonymous.

The press call them extremists, non muslims call them extremist even other muslims call them extremist.

Extremist means someone who has extreme views or actions that today's society won't accept. They aren't actually extreme in a religious way as they are following the book. 'We' don't like what they are doing so say it's extreme. Other religions who's followers go exactly by the book are called devout. So religious wise they are devout and by society standard extreme, if that all makes sense.

The verses you gave -I think-refer to war itself rather than jihad as you mentioned in your first post.

A more appropriate verse for why they go to another place and join in war is this

.those who leave their homes for the cause of Allah, and are then slain or die, Allah will, surely, provide for them a goodly provision...

From what I've read, if anyone fights in the name of Allah they get a special place in 'heaven'
