Hi, folks. New here, but I gather from discussion elsewhere that this issue has problems - different clues printed and online for one. I'm stuck on 26a. The clue I have is "Next came 3 and 4 from American platter, so to speak" (5,7) and the letters I have are _h_e_/H_n_r_d. The answer could be Three Hundred, but I can relate that to the clue. 3 and 4 d are Anastasia and Names, and I know of no American platter (or plateau) relating to 300. There are the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae, but again that does not relate to the clue. Help, please.

Unable to come up with anything else that fits, I put "Three Hundred" and submitted the puzzle which came back with no errors so it must be right. I am completely lost as to how to parse it though!

Are you suggesting plateau because it sounds like platter? I suppose it could also be 'plaiter'.
I'll bump this back onto Latest Posts and see if one of the expert solvers spots it
What was the other version of the clue that you've heard mentioned?

Thanks, factor-fiction. I've not heard any other clue to 26a mentioned. 9a has two separate clues with the same answer, Meldrum, and 19a has two clues with diferent answers, copse and Capra - the latter must be right, as only an a fits into the answer to 10d, Morte D'Arthur. Neither affects 26a.
19A has to be 'copse' = cops which means TLS/Tantalus has screwed up since 10D is certainly 'Morte d'Arthur' - do you agree ?

Could it be 'Honored' rather than Hundred?

Walgraver, I gather the online clue for 19a was"Frank director who discovered it's a wondrful life, but you can't take it with you", which obviously is Capra. The printed version had "Thicket said to be associated with thieves in thrillers", which is indeed copse, but if the online version is right Capra does fit with Morte D'Arthur.

Baldric, it could be Honored rather than Hundred, but other than it's an American spelling I don't see how that relates to the clue either.

Thanks, Calibax. I suppose we'll never know why it's correct, but it's good to know it is.
