Good pdm, a few on the right hand side still to work out if I have time. So 3 ev done over weekend, and all were very enjoyable. Am now up to date (near enough) on all the crosswords I attempt, which is really uncommon for a Monday, and actually a bit of a relief. Doing job swap this week, to a dept. mine is merging with next year, and I am to find out about there ways and them about ours.
Hello All, as usual I haven't 'cottened on' to how the blanks are left and your hint cagey either sends me outdoors with a flask of tea and a folding chair, or off to get the Sunday hat out, but not only both probably wrong but doesn't produce any PDM.
Christina, I too am missing a few in the top RH corner from last week which is most frustrating 7d/8a/10d any hints anyone. How is the fruit, have just started picking the blackcurrants (having left the redcurrants to the birds this year) so the notice is on the gate in the hope that they won't all have to go in the freezer for my later attention!
Also straining the brain on the Speccie.

Dun it! No-one is more amazed than me. Your heavy hint produced a definate doh! moment novalis, I was definitely thinking whites and not weatherproofs.
In the N & C dept, went to a great charity ball on Sat, the entertainment was lvin Stardust and the Tremolos................showing the age now, but they were great, both groups got the whole place rocking despite the average age of the group being OAP!

Hi Dd. Yes, I've just started picking the blackcurrants, too, and have already frozen loads of raspberries with more to come. Apples, pears and plums are all looking somewhat advanced - oh dear.
8d from last week is almost an anagram plus a two letter common abbreviation, leading to the final part of the clue - not a word I knew but think I found it in Bradfords. I have 10d but no idea why so hints are beyond me and need to look at 7d again to work out why I have what I've put in (how pathetic is that?)
The two I am stuck on are 35a and 36d, plus can't see anything in the grid to give me the source of the bang. I've only found five of the 'two definition' clues and are wondering how many I should have.

Are you still around dd? I think I may have finished EV1129, though a small query regarding the second letter of the second word of the source/consequence of the bang, which I didn't have to change and consequently didn't have two alternatives for it elsewhere. Wondering if I've missed something.
Also remembered why I had my answer for 7d. so if you're still struggling, you need an abbreviation inserted into another word for limit which will give you an eye movement.

Hi All
Quite enjoyed this week's - although I did flounder to start.
Christiana - you are correct that there is one letter of the Bang that isn't changed.
First "mini cucumber" today. Blackcurrants ready to be harvested. Raspberries are an autumn variety and seldom go into the freezer as we love them fresh!

Thanks for the confirmation, Ringer. Have never tried to grow cucumbers, but have the first flower on my 'eightball' courgettes. I don't have a greenhouse, but the light end of the garage is full of various tomato varieties, mostly cherry, but one beefsteak type. Alas, the birds have nicked all my cherries - first year for a crop and the tree is too tall to net properly so it will be an on-going problem.
Unfrotunately this year the slugs and snails did for our cucumbers, but we have three courgette plants (all outside) that are doing great. I think, like last year, we will have a glut of courgette. Tomatoes so-so. Coriander went to seed (again), Strawberries fab, although our nearly two year old is oproving worse than any bird!
Thanks Christina, afraid it (1129) has 'gone over the shoulder' in sheer frustration.
Can't seem to grow cucs at all so swap them with a friend for eggs. Toms all doing well but the Barleywine (an old heritage variety) decided to commit suicide last week and keeled over with a semi-split stem so I splinted it, wrapped it in bale tape and it seems to have worked, still going anyway!
New raspberry plants put i last winter have failed but loganberry plant has made up for it.
Question for you all.......courgettes thrive and produce for England but all attempts with squashes fail??????? Comments please
Cagey, have you tried crushed up egg shells around the plants? It hurts their feet!
