Suggestion By The Conservatives To Give Vouchers To Benefits Claiments

Further to TTT's post 'A step in the right direction' I mentioned that this subject had been mentioned before many times by Conservative thinkers. It was spoken about on LBC a couple of years ago and there was a phone in program by Julie Hartley-Brewer. I thought she was going to blow a fuse. You must listen to this.

To add insult to injury, Ms Hartley- Brewer contacted him about a year later and interviewed him again and this is the second interview but you must listen to the above first please.

I suggested to Linda this warranted its own thread - and it does. One could almost imagine that the people who sarcasticall y suggest the Magdalene laundries and workhouses as solutions really don't mind working to keep the idle in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed - which is fine - as long as they foot the bill and don't expect the rest of us to...

I was listening to a debate about this on the Jeremy Vine show, and was shouting at the radio at what one guy was saying.
Not all benefit claimants are lazy, feckless and spend their money on booze and fags. We all know there are few like that, but please don't assume they are all the same. I was on benefits once, and budgeted carefully for every penny. I didn't need the government telling me how to spend what little I had. By the way, I am immensely grateful for the help the state gave me.

Neither me or anyone else is saying everyone on benefits is like this. The system was designed for People like you Cloverjo, but there are an awful lot of people like the bloke on the radio and the system was created by Labour. We have to make work worthwhile. Why should benefits money bespent on fags, drugs and alcohol? It's a bit like the lad who's neverworked who said "I pay my taxes - every time I buy a packet of fags or a beer!" They just don't get it. And no Sandy, I don't think he was pulling he leg.
