I think, crosswhit99, that the Two in the title refers to the fact that in the TV programme, things are often in groups of 4, whereas here, the links are mostly between pairs.
Messy? I think not; amazing, rather, that four themes can be contained in 13 x 13. OK, it is asymmetrical, but what an achievement - I do not recall a Listener containing quite such a density of thematic material, in some cases exceeding the original’s specifications.
