Generalist Christmas

Prospect mag (the printed version) has a combined Generalist (twin jigsaw) crossword and word quiz for its Christmas special. Still got large chunks to do, but running into a brick wall on one section of the word quiz -
"Queue" comprises one consonant and four vowels. Which words, commonly used in English, follow the same pattern? (Y is not allowed).
C_____, D_____, L_____, R_____, R_____.
Have come up with Cooee and Looie as possibilities but nothing else. Any suggestions would be mostly gratefully received. Very best Christmas wishes to all and thanks for all past help on this site.

I'm also have trouble with this question. I'm wondering whether the consonant has to be at the beginning of the word as it doesn't actually say that - in which case I'm wondering about auDio for the D. It does state that it is words commonly used in English. I haven't thought of any for R.

If it doesn't have to begin with the consonant then 'eerie' would work.

Tks your suggestions - the instructions give Queue as the example and say the others should follow the same pattern, which makes it difficult for them to be commonly used in English. It really is very exasperating

Have posted a similar question to yours......but no replies, have you come to any conclusion, as both parts: the crossword and the word quiz; have to be completed for entry to the comp.......

Have you done the first part of the quiz with the consecutive letters? - haven't got my copy of the puzzle with me at the moment but I've only done one of them

Shame we have to do the quiz to enter the crossword.

yes i have, verypuzzled - do you need any of them? it will be very annoying not to be able to find those vowel words for part 2.

I wondered about ROUEE as a feminine roue for the R.
I did find words for all of them, but they were very obscure and certainly not common in my speech.
Sorry, cannot remember them now as I have sent the puzzle off...but one was a kind of spider.
I think there must be an error in the instructions somewhere.

I would very much like some help with part 1. I've done the CHPH one - I've put catchphrase. Even if I don't finish part 1 I might send it in - I assume everyone else is having a real problem with it. I see it has to be in by 10th Jan.
