The 'experiment' is interesting and conveniently goes some way towards redressing the recent criticism of the BBC's lack of diversity.
Perhaps he thought shoe-horning a white correspondent in just for appearances sake would 'spoil' the show?
Not something I personally agree with, but there are some people who hold the view that merely having someone assigned a role who does not match an overall cast ethnicity somehow degrades a programme.
I did not hear the show - was it any good? What features were presented? Also, is it not possible that the correspondents were covering topics for which they were subject matter experts?

The problem is, if you want to discuss diverity you cannot then go and exclude a group without exposing yourselves for ctisism.
