We get lots of helicopters and the odd military aircraft where I live but this afternoon there was something v weird. I heard a noise like a cross between thunder and a howling gale (v different to the noise of a fighter jet) and I could tell something was approaching so I looked up (and out of the back window) and something whooshed by (very, very low and quick) and as it did so the electric went off. It was the strangest feeling ever, even the kids were looking around them before it happened, you could almost sense it before it flew past.

O'er, Twilight Zone ;)

It was really odd - hope they're not going to do it on a regular basis, I'll be a bag of nerves!
Did the electricity flick off and on, Sherr? That seems very odd!
Probably just Cupid, Sherr.....you know how she suffers....☺

Electricity flickered (just when the noise started and I could tell something was coming), then went off completely as it flew past) - my friend's electricity went off too (she lives round the corner). I also lost my mobile signal.
Chinook - scary loud wokka wokka noises?

The downdraught from the blades may have rattled some electricity supply cables?
No Dave, we don't want to hear that, we want to know that it's a UFO ;)
E.T. phone home?
Chinooks don't whoosh by very, very quick
Question Author
Not a chinook (we get them about once a week). Himself reckons it was a military drone.
Jings, crivvens, etc.
No mobile signal is classic alien visitation
They blooming can do if they're only a few tens of feet off the ground - frightened the carp out of me a few weeks ago when one whizzed over here.
I read something about them practicing with 'pilotless' fighter jets the other week - I'll have a google.

We live v near to an army camp just outside of Hereford so are used to helicopters at all times of the day and night and the occasional aircraft (when the Hercules took off and began it's ascent up our road (when we were outside) it felt as though it was only 10ft above our heads!).
Question Author
Sunny Dave - from what I saw of it, it could have been one of those. Hope they don't come past v often (it'll knacker the electrics).
A Typhoon maybe, we had one fly over our house last year during the Bristol balloon fiesta, very very noisy and literally made the ground shake.

Dave.
Question Author
It definitely wasn't a fighter jet (we get them too) - this was v low (lower than the helicopters that we get) - heading west towards the Brecon Beacons (not really any towns on the way so could fly low for quite a distance).
