Just Wondering

Can anyone tell me why I am spending hours struggling and taxing my brain attempting to complete this crossword? I only ask because I heard myself telling someone yesterday that I enjoy crosswords. I like searching in my books so the brain stress must be worth the effort.

If you didn't get pleasure from them you'd stop - struggling is part of the whole exercise.

I like exercising my brain doing crosswords otherwise my brain goes to mash and I can't remember stuff ;-(

Not forgetting the sense of achievement when you complete a particularly difficult crossword.

I do, sometimes, ask for help but its not the same as making myself find the answer. Can,t help but notice that some of you have completed the damn thing when I have hardly started. Thank you for the help I have received so far and I look forward to next weeks efforts.

I used to do the Times every day but have stopped because only once in the past 6 years have I been unable to complete it, so it no longer gives me pleasure. Oddly enough I find 'quick' or non-cryptic crosswords consisting only of definitions more difficult.
