Me too - from the original question 22a (Keeps up) comes before 15a (Appearances) which may be the source of the confusion as ordbrae is putting 15a first.

To continue,If ''sprite is correct the two letter word will be ''r? The eleven letter last word will be ''n9( from gasman)?e??e?p?u?.The whole clue and available spaces does'nt make sense.

Ordbrae - see my comment - it looks if you have the clues reversed - 22a comes before 15a.The R you mention is in appeaRances.
