Although to be far I think he is quite used to rumbles of dissent in his many guises as setter - think it's part of the territory.

I’m the worst and the best, Mamya. That’s what being a setter is all about. Every setter is the best for a specific group of solvers and the worst for another, simply because we’re as different in what we do as solvers are in what they want from puzzles. Cryptic crosswords would all be the same (and therefore boring) otherwise.

Oh yes, totally agree and a very hard task it is to please all.

I am very fond of getting along with everyone very easily but it does sound fun sometimes to irritate the heck out of people by making them scratch their heads in frustration.
