Further to my entry on the "I remember" thread, working Saturday mornings had its advantages. I used to rail commute into Norwich on a season ticket so obviously Saturday afternoon after work I would wend my way down to Carrow Road to watch the Canaries (in the old Third Division in those days).

And yes, ALL regular League football matches took place at 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon - none of this evening/Sunday/Monday stuff to suit the ravenous TV Companies.

just wondered, most dyed-in-the-wool canaries fans have an opinion on this -

what's your opinion of robert chase?
Question Author
As regards Chase, by the time he took over I was living miles away (Swindon Town being my local team then) and unable to follow Norwich's fortunes particularly closely. I know a lot of fans didn't like him, but I wasn't close enough to form an opinion really.

Geofrey Watling was the Chairman in the time I referred to, and I had a lot of time for him.
Being able to watch Norwich attempt to play football was an 'advantage'.

How so????

Which of the East Anglian teams had a hideous statue of one of their past managers erected outside the stadium? A link would be appreciated.

So remind me who went up this year Chris ?

P.S. In the times I was talking about it was generally accepted that Tractor Boys (not called that in those days) were one division better - from what I remember they were as fixed in the Second as Norwich in the Third. How things changed in later years. I seem to remember Ipswich had two brilliant goal-scorers at that time, one was Phillips but I'm damned if I can remember the other - but they were a very effective strike force.

Ipswich has two statues of past managers outside their stadium. Neither of them are hideous!

Cheers Chris. The statue was so bad it was taken away and melted down. It was all over the papers at the time.
Geography obviously wasn't your best subject at school, was it, Melv?

Southampton isn't in East Anglia!

Cheers again Chris. I thought it was modelled on someone from East Anglia:-)
I used to go and watch Norwich with my Dad back in the late sixties .Dave Stringer was the pin up boy in those days . We used to get free tickets if my brother was on duty. My menfolk are avid Norwich fans and are so pleased they've been promoted .
i followed norwich during the time of the great ted macdougall. my MiL had good words for robert chase, none of them repeatable in good company and some of which i was unaware she actually knew.
