I guess it must be timpani and can see "pani" as "awful pain"
But why "tim"? Or is it just a poor clue?

Yes well thanks. A Granddaughter has just started at Chichester
University & when I was telling a friend that she was doing a BA(Hons)
in dance he said ' I didn't think they had degree courses in Darts!'
I've been dining out on that ever since!
