How would you go on if, your house was not insured for incidents like this.
Would the Council/Government pay up?

If you'd no insurance you might like to throw in whoever told you that insurance was a waste of money.

The government won't pay up, that's what insurance is for.

I wonder how much their insurance will go up when it's up for renewal.

Its on a council road so they will pay for everything. Last year someone in our area had a new house built for them due to there being a previous disused coal shaft that collapsed and established their original home .

The council owns the roads and are responsible for repair and any damage occurring to peoples property because of the road.

Is it just luck that these sinkholes usually appear in the road rather than under houses, can you imagine that devastation.

Damage to property caused by a sink hole is covered by buildings insurance.

am I the only to think that this is a mine cap that has slipped ?

It looks very round - and sudduv the right radius for a mine shaft
One a few years ago had a roof of wood onto which they poured concrete and the wood eventually rotted

I'm only 15 miles from St Albans, but at least 150 miles from the nearest mine.

There is a very large sink hole not too far from me but the residents don't seem to mind. It's called Sunderland.

Bit hard that Jackdaw--Sunderland has some good facilities,excellent parks , a museum,decent shopping, a good hospital and a football team which is bearing the weight of the entire Premiership. More importantly hundreds of decent hardworking people.About 30 mins away from me.
