Interestingly some dictionaries give 'lame' as an alternative to 'halt' when used as an adjective - from old English apparently (q.v. as they used to say); but in this case whether the correct answer is 'limp' or 'lame' doesn't matter because they can both be altered to 'lime'.
Not so sure about 'lame' lettuce though!
