I can't find a reference but if the clue were read as "ANU's jelly", perhaps the Australian (National University's) word for jelly is "setter"...

It is SETTER. The crossword setter is Anus and jelly is something that sets.

When it started I supplied some clues to the main setter. The name was a nod to my pseudonym used elsewhere with ‘US’ as a nod to the collaboration. I haven’t supplied clues for a long time though.
