Thanks roslyn
I now have the quote and the authors. Have not figured out the final unclued light.
Also most of the unclueds.

Looking for hints.

I have problems with last 3 letters of 1D, 18D, 31A and 68A.
There may be an extra word in each clue.

1D. Losing idle month in cloister, behind time for putting in columns (10)
T?B?L?T???
18D. Talking wildly, ring house (6) ?A?R?S
20D. Top of liquidiser allowed to touch mouth (6) ?O?LET
31A. Room to manoeuvre, making a lace collar (6) ??R?H?

Thanks.
18 D. It's an astrological house. ('Wildly' was superfluous, I think.)
1d: TABULATORY

'idle' must be the superfluous word

time = T, losing idle month in cloister = A(m)BULATORY

http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/ambulatory
20d: GOBLET

according to Chambers it's the tall bowl forming the top part of a liquidiser
20d goblet
31a berth a (type of collar)
Thanks bibblebub, Neveracrossword and roslyn.
Struggling through this! The answer to 49a would certainly help. "Recoiling from soldiers, one in speechless thought (9)." Thanks
R.E. silient
p.s. so 'thought' would seem to be unnecessary

(don't have the crossword to be certain)
Thank you bibblebub
you're welcome
I'm stuck on my last solution. 74d Away from home, tenure on Dartmoor not initially. ?N?I?L? Hint would be appreciated.
