I think everywhere has to be on one continent or another, as chrisg has said in Another Place, and the Middle East is not a continent. I suppose this means Israel is in Asia as well !

Turkey's generally deemed to be in both continents, with the dividing line down the Bosporus; likewise Russia down the line of the Urals. But even if Israel takes part in Eurovision, I don't think it's European.
