A modest victory for the small man, although a neighbour of mine has lost his job there.
Just goes to show that if enough of us complain, often enough, we can win in the end.

//Under new laws being introduced by the UK government, direct marketing companies will soon have to display their phone numbers to customers - companies that do not will face fines of up to £500,000.//
that bit of legislation is an empty vessel. today the nuisance calls I get on a depressingly regular basis do display their numbers, but they don't in fact come from where the number suggests - the ability to "spoof" phone numbers has existed for some time.

Mush...I agree 100%.
Its just a way for the Authorities to pretend to do something, while in actual fact, doing nothing whatsoever....window dressing, that is all.
TWR...you are of course correct and I did the same. But these fraudsters target the old and vulnerable and that is why they need to be driven out of business.

A technique passed on from a friend proved to be pretty good, if you receive a cold caller offering to sell you something say sorry I will have to leave you for a moment there is someone at the front door & leave the caller hanging on. Return to the phone later & hopefully your cold caller has run up a huge phone bill.
//Mushroom, you can put a stop to these calls by purchasing a B.T. Nuisance call blocker phone.... //
that's only effective if the scammers use the same indicated number; they don't. i've had calls from the same company (selling alleged fine wines) purporting to be from manchester, kidderminster, norwich, inverness and reading, to name but a few. with a number blocking phone, the scammers will always be a step ahead of you and you'll forever being adding new numbers to the list.
