This type of clue has been cropping up a lot recently. So when I see even I look at the letter that corresponds with even numbers 2,4,6. When I see odd I look at 1,3,5 etc.

But can are the letters 1,3,5 which are odd numbers. I am just trying to understand the logic.

Yes- they are the odd numbers. It's the EVEN letters it says to remove so that leaves teh ODD ones

The clue says "EVEN links get REMOVED". So remove 2nd & 4th letters in Chain.

Even is not meant to be like odd or even. It describes a sequence of removal and you look at chain and remove letters sequentially. Very bad explanation . A can is a prison so start with c and remove every other letter in this case until you have three letters left.
