Yes, not too bad today - doc certainly likes his Brewer - luckily the 18th edition sufficed today!
I have the 19th edition of Brewers - very helpful, but ... 11 A has defeated me; I believe that I have the correct intersecting letters yet I cannot find any name listed that fits the (?) two words.
HINTS please.
I googled that one after finding it using universal crossword solver -it's the 2 word one - it is in Brewer too
Roslyn,
I'd take my hat off to you - if I had one. Many thanks
Doc is starting to overdo user-friendliness. I think my 4 year old granddaughter could have done this one.
Having just enjoyed and completed Doc's latest speccie, it was comforting to know that I was on a par with bwillis's 4 year old granddaughter.
Let's hope Doc loses his copy of Brewer soon. Mine does not list 18A. Any hints of where to find it?
I found a few at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mythological_dogs

I did not find many in Brewers (19th). 12D or 39A or 45A are not in Brewers.

I do not have 1D, 12D, 18A, 20D, 26A and 37D.
A lot of work but hope to get them eventually.
I am sorry. I was looking up each dog individually. I found a page with list of dogs in Brewers.
I have all but two.
1D seems to the name of a famous Roman. Also known as the Invader of the Larder.
That leaves one.
18A is still a mystery.
Hankir, I have the 19th edition and 18 A IS there.
Thanks Neveracrossword.
I should read the names more carefully.
After a while the eyes start to skip things. Time for a short nap.

Helveticus: Here is a hint. A rodent in a Kipling book.
Glad your reading has improved, Hankir!
Thanks for the hint, Hankir. Unfortunately it was not enough (though there is a rodent within the light). It is dashed annoying to have everything except 18A. Could someone else give me a nudge and put me out of my misery?
It is a pity that Doc is the crossword editor of the Spectator, as a different editor might be able to talk him out of setting puzzles whose clues are easy to solve, but which cannot be completed unless one has a specific edition of a printed book.
The penny just dropped. Thanks Hankir.
Last one.26a) Can't find it in Brewer's.any help?Thanks
26 IS in my Brewer's, the 19th edition. Do you have an earlier version?

A stooge with artist.
I think I have got it, but can't find that spelling of it anywhere! Thanks
I know this is pretty weak but I have all the theme words, lucky to have Brewers because I certainly didn't know many (other than20d bizarrely), but I can't do just 2 final clues.

23dn A?O? Certainly not a theme word - though just a bit? (4)
25ac ?E?T? Witness support right away (5)

Any help would be appreciated....
