Using malleable as a synonym of ductile will, surely, make some engineers cross.

I'm not an engineer but, even if I'd guessed malleable as a fit to the grid, I would have dismissed it as "wrong" and been left stuck.

Yes. Being (or feeling) unloveable would be sadder still. The unrequited have at least discovered themselves to be able to send it outwards, which means they cannot feel too bad about themselves. Being conscious of not having any incoming would be horrid; corrosive to the ego.
