The penny isn't dropping for me at all saladdodger.I've answered most of the clues but can't seem to fit them in.
I think some have to go in,in reverse perhaps ?

You are thinking on the right lines shaneystar. My problem is 19 down. I can only do it by misspelling "ab ovo" as "ab ova".

Check your spelling (and parsing)of 18a and all will become clear. There's no error in 19d.

I had sweet briar (2 words but wrong?) but have now changed it to sweetbriEr so 19d may be ABOVE reversed in the grid?
