This suggests meleguetta is different to malaguatta and is the one known as grains of paradise.

I have reached a similar conclusion - it is definitely not malagueta/malaguetta which is a Brazilian spice. The 'grains of paradise' spice is melegueta but as yet unable to conclusively find an alternative spelling as meleguetta to fit the grid.

We shall simply have to wait and see what Kate Mepham/The Telegraph uses as a point of reference - a Dictionary, Wikipedia or a Spice info site.

Certainly become a talking point that's for sure.
