Milliner(6): ?A??ER. I thought HATTER and from that I got the T for T?P??? with the clue Chess piece(6). I din't know any chess pieces beginning with T, so can anyone please solve my problem??

Hatter looks good but as you say can't see a chess piece starting with t.

Tilly2, I thought of topper but googling threw up no references to chess. I also wondered if TOPMAN might be another name for the king but found nothing to support in google
