Did away with the language (7). I have ???e?e? So the answer might be "deleted" but I don't get language part.
The other one is " it's trivial when immersed in tea"(5). I have ?t?r? But no idea what might fit. I'd be glad of help

2 Storm (in a teacup)
deleted looks ok- a language can be written as well as spoken.
Question Author
Thank you so much, as ever. I still don't quite get the logic of the language part but that's me, I suppose. The storm in a teacup makes great sense and I am more than a bit cross with myself for not seeing that one.
But not so cross as I was last night. Mummy had a couple of dozen friends round for a summer party. Of course I was recruited to help which I was glad to do. We were at it for ages. But when they were leaving, they all thanked her very fully. Quite right! But not one said thanks to me or even acknowledged that I might have helped. Adults! They are ready enough to give out about young people...I am sure you wouldn't be like that Mamyalynne.
Well Steven , if they were aware you were a major help then yes they were churlish not to include you in their thanks.

Perhaps Mum should have said something ?- I rather think I would.

Don't take them as representative of all adults.
I'm not sure of where the 'the language ' bit fits in either.
Have you got 18a now, steven ? (18 Tells the truth when hit on the head (4)- last letter must be E if deleted is right)
Where is that clue, ff?
It crosses with 16d (Did away with the language) such that it would give the second letter of 16d

Ah, so Steven had ts asked it. Thanks.

Bleeped - Did away with the language.
I'm asking it, as no-one seems totally convinced by DELETED, so checking whether the second letter is E might help
Bleeped looks good then
^^
Excellent, well done both.
:o)
Question Author
I have now changed my mind about 18 ac. I think the answer is "nail " which means the second letter of THIS word would be L . If my revision is right we would have ?l?e?e?. So bleeped is definitely a runner.
steven
More than a runner surely?
Nail already suggested
Question Author
You are right. It IS more than a runner! It is the correct answer! So thanks to all who contributed to finding it. I am very grateful.
And thanks to you Mamyalynne for your earlier comment. Your advice is always helpful

When I see this pop up in latest posts I keep thinking Sunny Dave has returned and wants a word with me.
:o))
