try to fill up as much as you can in the grid... hopefully then you will have enough letters to work out 31a or the down one in col 10 ... once you have one of those you should be able to "guess/deduce" the theme.

Perimeter is turning out to be difficult.
The unclued in 10th column seems to be a proper name. 31A is a generic version of it. So is 10 letter word at 2A.
I think the last column may have the name of a place, probably 10 letters.
The last two unclued (5,4) may refer to a canal.
The 1st column and last row need a hint or two.
