It's good to read that you've got an appointment with your GP though. My friend had lots of problems with neck pain and headaches. The doctor simply ran his fingers down my friend's spine and enquired "So when did you break your neck then?" (He'd actually broken a bone in his neck in a fall three years earlier but not known about it until then).

I can't really help and sorry you are in so much pain. I have a friend with neck problems and she bought one of these and it helped her... Hope you get it sorted .

Avoid physios and 'deep tissue massage' until you are diagnosed properly, you may need a course of neck traction.
To ease the pain and relax the muscles I recommend a sausage-shaped muslim bag of sand about 12" long which you can put in the microwave for one and a half minutes and apply to your neck, wrapped in a towel and as hot as you can stand it.
