Apparently it's from Lancelot (?)
I was thinking 'Meresman' but only based on the letters placed and the 'plot' bit of the clue.

It's not from any Lancelot that I can think of and definitely not this weeks.

I can find the same clue in The Times 26073 which was the entry crossword for The Times Crossword Championship of 2015. :))
